· They are one piece
of wood, including the foot.
· All are cut from logs, many of which we have cut ourselves.
· Most of the trees we use must be removed for some reason
such as storm damage.
· Every drum is
kiln-dried to make certain that it will not crack from internal stress.
· The drums are shaped to effect sound quality. As the head
is installed on the drum, the tension is monitored by deflection and
sound analysis by a computer.
· The drum gets at least 3 coats of a tung oil finish. This
oil, from the nut of the Chinese tung tree, is said to be the most
water resistant natural vegetable oil.
