Here in the gallery you can see bowls, vases, and an urn. They provide a sampling - not a complete display - of the product range available from Walter Goodridge - Woodturning. Presenting information here is a little difficult, because each piece we make is unique; we do not have standard sizes and shapes. We generally make whichever bowls we feel are best suited to an individual tree.

If you visit us at a craft show, or in the shop in Conway Massachusetts, you will see a selection of work similar to - but not the same as - that pictured here. Please click here if you are interested in ordering a bowl.

Many features are common to our bowls:

· They are one piece of wood, including the foot.

· All are cut from logs, many of which we have cut ourselves.

· Most of the trees we use must be removed for some reason such as storm damage.

· Every bowl is kiln-dried to make certain that it will not crack from internal stress.

· They are surprisingly light in weight. The rims are thick to provide strength in the most critical area. Below the rim the bowl thins dramatically to eliminate unnecessary weight.

· The bowls get at least 3 coats of a food-safe tung oil finish. This oil, from the nut of the Chinese tung tree, is said to be the most water resistant natural vegetable oil.

· A touch-up kit containing a bottle of finish and use and care instructions is included with each bowl. In it is a card with information on the woodturning process. This is especially useful to the recipient, when a bowl is given as a gift.
