Drying (Step 2 of 2)

The door is about to be closed on this batch of cherry bowls. 30-50% of green wood's weight is water. They will start their four to six weeks in the kiln at 110 degrees and high humidity. They will finish at 160 degrees and at a humidity level which will dry them to be in equilibrium with the atmosphere.

Some temperature and humidity sensing devices are visible. The front of the kiln and its control panel are visible in the second photo of Rough Turning, where Bill is shaping the outside of a big bowl.
